Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton will miss his first game of the season Sunday against the Houston Rockets with a left ankle sprain.

Ayton exited Phoenix’s 124-111 win over the New Orleans Pelicans Friday in the first quarter after landing on center Jonas Valanciunas’ foot awkwardly.

His ankle will be reevaluated in a week, according to the Suns.

Ayton was off to a hot start, scoring 18.3 points per game over his first four contests. He had 16 points and 14 rebounds against the Golden State Warriors Tuesday.

Ish Wainright is also listed as out against Houston, as he remains sidelined with lower back pain.

For the Rockets, veteran shooting guard Eric Gordon (right knee maintenance), rookie guard TyTy Washington (left knee sprain) and big man Bruno Fernando (left knee soreness) are ruled out Sunday.

Rookie big Jabari Smith Jr. — the No. 3 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft — is questionable with a right ankle sprain.

The game begins at 6 p.m.
