Imagine if the Arizona State Sun Devils never had Sparky on their helmets. Apparently, that’s where the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers have been.
Until now. The Hilltoppers on Tuesday teased that a helmet featuring Big Red the mascot will debut on Saturday against Rice.

Western Kentucky dropped the bombshell news with a hype video featuring the goofy blob of a mascot working with the school’s president, Tim Caboni, to finally make the move.
The matte grey helmets feature Big Red throwing a football on each side. It looks like WKU will wear the helmets atop an all-red uniform.
In the hype video, the helmet is worn with maybe the best visor art we can imagine: Big Red’s eyes are plopped in the middle of deep red tint. Unfortunately, that’s probably not gameday legal, but we sure wish that wasn’t the case.

The Big Red helmet had been released prior, and the school has teased the nod to its mascot over the past months.
That news didn’t sit well with Big Red a few weeks back. Congrats to him for finally making it … to the top of this metaphorical hill.
Behind the scenes of deciding which helmet we're wearing on Friday…
