The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired outfielder Kyle Lewis from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for outfielder/catcher Cooper Hummel, the team announced on Thursday.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan was the first to report the move.

Lewis, 27, won the American League Rookie of the Year Award in his first big league campaign in 2020.

That season, the outfielder slashed .262/.364/.437 (.801 OPS) with 11 home runs and 28 RBIs across 58 games played. He also had five stolen bases and garnered 34 walks in 206 at-bats.

However, a right meniscus tear in 2021 and a concussion in 2022 have seen the outfielder appear in only 54 combined games over the last two seasons.

In Lewis’ four-year MLB career, he has a slash line of .244/.329/.432 (.761 OPS) on 12 doubles and 25 home runs. He’s also driven in 57 ribbies to go along with 58 walks and seven stolen bases across 130 games (463 ABs).

The acquisition also gives the Diamondbacks their only right-handed bat in the outfield after designating righty outfielder Stone Garrett for assignment on Tuesday.

Arizona’s remaining outfielders on the big league roster are all lefties in Daulton Varsho, Alek Thomas, Jake McCarthy, Corbin Carroll and Pavin Smith.

Hummel, who turns 28 later this month, made his MLB debut with the D-backs in 2022. The switch-hitter had an average of .176, while his 2.74 OBP and .307 slugging percentage amounted to a .581 OPS.

Hummel finished his rookie campaign with three home runs, three triples, eight doubles, 17 RBIs, 23 walks and four stolen bases in 176 at-bats (66 appearances).
