News on the injury front has not been particularly kind to the Arizona Cardinals of late, as they announced Thursday defensive lineman Corey Peters has been lost for the season with a torn Achilles.

However, the status of guard Mike Iupati, who left Tuesday’s practice early, was not too bad, especially considering the report that came out Wednesday saying he would be out six to eight weeks.

Iupati was the Cardinals’ big free agent acquisition this offseason, in both size and contract. The 6-foot-5, 331-pound who has been to three Pro Bowls came over from the San Francisco 49ers on a five-year, $40 million contract. The team is looking for him to team up with last offseason’s big signing, left tackle Jared Veldheer, to help form one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.

Depending on how long Iupati is out for may very well determine how the team goes about replacing him. In Wednesday’s practice, Ted Larsen — who started at left guard most of last season — was running with the first-team, though Earl Watford could be another option at the position.
