Arizona State guard Desmond Cambridge Jr. was named the Pac-12’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week and guard Austin Nunez was named the Pac-12’s Men’s Basketball Freshman Of the Week.
Both players were key factors in the Sun Devils’ wins over VCU and then-No. 20 Michigan to take home the Legends Classic.
Cambridge averaged 15.0 points per game across the two contests and shot 11-for-22 (50%) from the field. He entered Thursday’s win over the Wolverines having missed his first 10 3-point attempts of the season before knocking down four of his eight in that victory.
The fifth-year senior guard arrived as a transfer from Nevada this offseason, joining the team at the same time as his brother Devan, who came from Auburn.
Cambridge is the first Sun Devil to win the award since Remy Martin in February 2020.
Nunez is proving to be quite the spark plug off the bench as a true freshman. The lefty scorer posted 10 points against VCU and another 15 in only 22 minutes versus Michigan.
Nunez was ranked by 247Sports as a top-70 recruit in the country and has looked the part thus far.
