Watch: Patrick Beverley ejected after shoving Deandre Ayton

For whatever reason, Patrick Beverley has become a frequent flyer when it comes to shoving Phoenix Suns players.

On Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers guard put his shoulder into Suns center Deandre Ayton, resulting in an ejection.

The incident occurred after Phoenix guard Devin Booker fouled Los Angeles guard Austin Reaves on a block attempt, which was eventually deemed a flagrant 1 following a review of the play.

You can be the judge if this was warranted or just another edition of Pat Bev being Pat Bev:

“Pat needs to stop pushing people in the back, man. Push them in the chest. That’s all I have to say,” Booker told TNT’s Chris Haynes postgame.

The Suns went on to win the ballgame, 115-105. Booker fouled out with 43.7 seconds left.

“I felt like the play kinda got out of control after the staredown at Austin Reaves by Book then another staredown by Ayton and the refs didn’t really come in and break it up,” Beverley told reporters postgame.

“You know I’m not going for that (expletive). … I’m a big fan of protecting my teammates and I’m a foxhole guy.”

This isn’t the first time Beverley has pushed a member of the Suns, either.

In Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals in 2021, Beverley — who was with the Los Angeles Clippers at the time — shoved Suns guard Chris Paul in the back before Phoenix was crowned champions of the West behind a 38-point performance from the Point God.

Just like Tuesday night’s contest, Beverley was also ejected from the playoff game.

“That’s the second time he pushed somebody with they back turned,” Ayton said postgame. “But hey. It is what it is. Like me, I don’t worry about it. He ain’t hurt me. He didn’t take nothing out of my pocket and I ain’t react.”

The two teams have three more matchups scheduled between them.

Phoenix will host for the last time on Dec. 19 before finishing out the four-game season set in Los Angeles on March 22 and April 7.

“I just think it’s happening too many times. I just think the league needs to take a look at those kinds of plays; they’re just unnecessary,” Suns head coach Monty Williams said postgame. “There was obviously some tension but with us, it’s happening too many times and when you push a guy when he’s not looking like that, it’s just not called for. … Continuing to do that, it’s just out of control.

“It’s just happening to us too many times and the league, they threw him out of the game, but it’s just getting kind of silly now to the point where you just kind of get your guys out of the way and say, ‘Guys, let’s just go win the game.’ But it is just getting silly, that’s the only word I can come up with.”
