The Arizona Diamondbacks’ Thursday night game against the Cincinnati Reds looked all too familiar.

Arizona gave up another early bunch of runs for the second straight night. However, instead of amounting to only two hits in eight innings like last night, they slowly clawed back into the game and won 5-4.

The D-backs dominated the middle innings, totaling 10 hits between the fifth and eighth inning.

There was also a great performance from the bullpen to keep Arizona in the game. They allowed only three hits after starter Patrick Corbin was pulled to start the third inning.

A.J. Pollock had four hits and Chris Owings had another three. That run from the bullpen started with a perfect three innings from Josh Collmenter. Andrew Chafin, David Hernandez, and Daniel Hudson kept the Reds at bay before Brad Ziegler finished the game with save number 22 for the season.

Despite the comeback, the offensive struggles were still there, particularly with their MVP candidate Paul Goldschmidt. The first basemen went 0-5 on Thursday, leaving a runner on base in every at-bat.

Goldschmidt continues to struggle in August. He entered Thursday’s game hitting only .238 in the month.

Here’s Thursday’s win, by the numbers:

9

Josh Collmenter’s relief appearance allowed the D-backs an opportunity to get back into the game. The reliever had a perfect outing in three innings, going nine up and nine down.

19.2

Andrew Chafin’s scoreless inning streak continued Thursday night after his scoreless sixth inning brought the tally up to 19.2 innings straight without giving up a run.

10

Goldschmidt now has 10 games in August in which he has not had a hit. He was only averaging 5.75 no-hit games per month this season entering August.

30

Pollock now has thirty steals this season. He is the first D-back to reach thirty steals since Eric Byrnes in 2007.

20

Brad Ziegler has now converted twenty straight save opportunities.
