The Arizona Cardinals announced Wednesday that general manager Steve Keim is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team related to his health.

“Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim is currently on a health-related leave of absence,” the team released in a statement to Arizona Sports’ Tyler Drake.

“Keim’s duties are being handled on an interim basis by vice president of player personnel Quentin Harris and vice president of pro personnel Adrian Wilson. Out of respect for privacy – which is required by law – the team will refrain from commenting further.”

Keim, 50, worked his way up to the team’s head executive position in 2013 after beginning his tenure with the franchise in 1999 as a scout.

He became director of college scouting in 2006, director of player personnel in 2008 and VP of player personnel in 2012 before his promotion to GM.

Wilson was drafted by Arizona and played with the team from 2001-12.

After his retirement from the league, Wilson became a scout with the Cardinals for three years. He moved his way up to director of pro scouting before assuming his current role.

Harris is currently in his 15th season in Arizona’s scouting department and second as vice president of player personnel. He also spent time as director of player personnel as well as the director of pro scouting for six seasons

Keim signed a contract extension this offseason through 2027 to keep him in the Valley as the team’s decision maker.

The Cardinals have four games remaining on the season and are currently 4-9. The team is in position for a top 10 pick in the next NFL Draft.
