Teams like the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres are throwing around money like they’re Scrooge McDuck!

$300 million for this player. A quarter of a billion for that player. No number feels unreasonable in baseball anymore.

But while teams across the league are spending record amounts of cash on big-name free agents, the Arizona Diamondbacks have remained largely dormant.

They’ve made four moves this offseason, but we’re guessing you couldn’t name all four.

None of them are significant.

– Traded for RHP Carlos Vargas

– Traded for OF Kyle Lewis

– Signed RHP Miguel Castro

– Signed RHP Scott McGough

Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised because it would be uncharacteristic of this organization to open the checkbook for premier players.

That doesn’t mean Diamondbacks fans will be content with their strategy.

One thing is certain: The richest MLB owners in big markets will continue to be the first ones to the dinner table.

The others will be left to pick at the scraps.

Steve Zinsmeister and Cody Fincher recap the quiet offseason the Diamondbacks are putting together in this week’s episode of The Ain’t No Fang, an Arizona Sports podcast.
