Coyotes recall Dylan Guenther after he wins gold at World Juniors

The Arizona Coyotes recalled rookie Dylan Guenther on Friday, a day after he scored the gold-medal-winning goal for Canada in overtime of the IIHF World Junior Championship finale.
Arizona said he will rejoin the team when it returns from its current four-game road trip. The Coyotes face the Blackhawks in Chicago on Friday before returning for a Sunday home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Guenther scored with 6:22 in a three-on-three overtime period Thursday to give Canada the 3-2 win over the Czech Republic.
It was his second goal of the game and 10th point of his seven-game tournament run. He scored the game’s opening goal at 12:41 of the first period of the eventual 3-2 overtime victory in Halifax.

Guenther, the ninth overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, had been on loan to Canada for the World Junior Championship since Dec. 8.
For the Coyotes this season, he has three goals and eight assists in 21 games played, with all three of the goals coming on power plays.
He was not the only top Coyotes prospect on the ice at the tournament.
En route to a bronze medal with the United States, 2022 third overall pick Logan Cooley recorded a goal and assist in an 8-7 overtime bronze medal win against Sweden on Thursday.
Cooley’s 14 points — seven goals and assists apiece — for the tournament were second overall behind Canada’s Connor Bedard.
This season, Cooley is playing for the University of Minnesota and through 19 games has registered 10 goals and 15 assists.
Arizona fans might have taken notice of Bedard as well. The 17-year-old, who currently plays in the WHL, is regarded as the top prospect who will be in the 2023 NHL Draft.
On his way to winning the MVP of the World Juniors, he piled up nine goals and 14 assists for 23 total points, nine more than Cooley’s next-best total.
