Arizona sports fans are in for a treat over the next few months.
With Super Bowl LVII, the WM Phoenix Open and spring training all happening in the Valley, fans have another chance to watch the world’s best athletes in-person when the 2023 World Baseball Classic comes to Chase Field with 10 games over five days from March 11-15.
Single-game tickets for all 10 games went on sale Thursday and are available to purchase here. The games will feature defending World Baseball Classic champion Team USA, Team Mexico, Team Colombia and Team Great Britain in Pool C of the first-round bracket. These teams are battling it out round-robin style with daily doubleheaders of games at 12 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Merrill Kelly and former Diamondbacks and reigning NL MVP Paul Goldschmidt will be representing Team USA in the games. Kelly will be one of the starters in the rotation after putting up a career year with a 13-8 record, career-best 3.37 ERA and 200.1 innings pitched.
In addition to that, D-backs Spanish radio color analyst Rodrigo López will be the general manager for Team Mexico.
Two of the five teams, the winner and runner-up, from Pool C will move on to the second round of the tournament. From there, the eight teams — two teams each from four pools — will play in a single-elimination bracket with the final game being played on March 21 at LoanDepot Park in Miami, the home of the Miami Marlins.
