The Coyotes struck first, but Colorado had the stronger statement Thursday, beating the ‘Yotes 5-2 in Glendale, Ariz.
Arizona’s Oliver Ekman-Larsson notched his 18th goal of the season early, but Avs players Ryan O’Reilly and Jarome Iginla netted one apiece within 29 seconds of each other in the first period.
From there, the Coyotes couldn’t catch up.
Colorado rookie Freddie Hamilton had his first NHL goal off a tip-in assist from Brad Stuart. When Arizona struck back with another goal by Ekman-Larsson in the third period, the Avs’ Matt Duchene hit one in of his own to counter.

Ekman-Larsson had not scored in 13 games until his two Thursday against Colorado.
His last goal prior actually came against Colorado on Feb. 16.

Arizona began the game outshooting Colorado 6-1, but the Avs quickly caught up and made theirs count.

Colorado continues a three-game winning streak with the victory over Arizona. The Avs have also won 11-of-15 since Feb. 14.

Conversely, the Coyotes have lost 16 of their last 17 and 14 of their last 15 at home.
