The Coyotes struck first, but Colorado had the stronger statement Thursday, beating the ‘Yotes 5-2 in Glendale, Ariz.

From there, the Coyotes couldn’t catch up.

Colorado rookie Freddie Hamilton had his first NHL goal off a tip-in assist from Brad Stuart. When Arizona struck back with another goal by Ekman-Larsson in the third period, the Avs’ Matt Duchene hit one in of his own to counter.
