Moore, Fowles lead Lynx to 71-61 win over Mercury

MINNEAPOLIS — Maya Moore scored 28 points and Sylvia Fowles added 14 points and 13 rebounds to help the Minnesota Lynx beat the Phoenix Mercury 71-61 on Sunday night.

Renee Montgomery had 15 points for the Lynx (20-10), who now lead Phoenix by three games in the Western Conference.

Minnesota, which was 2-of-10 shooting to open the game and missed 11 straight shots in the second quarter, started the second half with a 10-2 run, including a 3-point play by Fowles that gave the Lynx their first lead of the game, 41-39.

A jumper by Moore with 2:53 to play gave capped a 16-4 spurt and made it 66-56 — the Lynx’s biggest lead of the game.

DeWanna Bonner scored 15 points, Candice Dupree added 14 and Brittney Griner 13 for Phoenix (17-13). Griner also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked a season-high nine shots, the most in the WNBA this season.
