Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte will be the leadoff hitter for the National League in the 2024 MLB All-Star Game.
It will be just the second time in team history that the leadoff hitter for the All-Star Game will be a D-backs player after Luis Gonzalez was in that spot in 2001.
Marte is now a two-time MLB All-Star after he was the leading vote-getter at his position for the 2024 National League roster.
Marte, 30, made his first All-Star appearance in 2019. This year he will play for an NL All-Star coaching staff led by D-backs manager Torey Lovullo. He hit eighth at the 2019 All-Star Game.
Marte leads all NL second basemen in slugging (.515), OPS (.877), RBIs (57), total runs (64), hits (105) and home runs (19).
He’s also tied with Miami Marlins second baseman Otto Lopez for the second-most outs above average among NL second basemen with seven, per Baseball Savant.
