On the latest edition of the State of the Sun Devils podcast, Jeremy Schnell, Jesse Morrison and Damon Allred preview the Arizona State basketball season and react to football’s loss to Cincinnati.
The men’s basketball team comes into the season with one of the best recruiting classes in ASU history. Center Jayden Quaintance was rated as a five-star recruit and ranked ninth in the 2024 recruiting class by 247Sports. Guard Joson Sanon was rated as a four-star recruit and 24th in the class.
ASU enters the Big 12 this season. The conference is perhaps the best in men’s college basketball with six teams ranked in the preseason AP poll and five in the top 10. The Sun Devils have seven conference games against teams ranked in the preseason poll.
ASU women’s basketball was picked second-to-last in the Big 12 preseason poll. The Big 12 is not quite as strong on the women’s side as it is on the men’s side, but it is still no slouch. Four teams are ranked in the preseason poll. The Sun Devils play each team ranked in the preseason poll.
ASU does get a boost this season as guard Tyi Skinner returns after missing last season with a knee injury. She was the team’s leading scorer in 2022-23.
As for Arizona State football, the team lost 24-14 to Cincinnati last Saturday.
