The Arizona Cardinals elevated defensive back Divaad Wilson from the practice squad ahead of Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, the team announced on Saturday.
The standard elevation gives Arizona additional depth in the secondary with starting safety Jalen Thompson questionable due to an ankle issue at practice that popped up on the injury report this week.
Thompson was limited on Thursday and did not practice on Friday, and his potential absence could present opportunities for young defensive backs such as Dadrion Taylor-Demerson and Kei’Trel Clark.
Wilson was elevated once this season for the Cardinals’ Week 8 victory at the Miami Dolphins. He recorded no defensive snaps while helping on special teams. Last year, he played 96 defensive snaps for Arizona across two games.
Wilson played college ball at Georgia and UCF before going undrafted and signing with Arizona’s practice squad last year.
Jets call up their kicker
New York elevated kicker Spencer Shrader from the practice squad to start at State Farm Stadium and fill in for the injured Greg Zuerlein. The Jets trotted out Riley Patterson to kick during their win against the Houston Texans in Week 9, but they elected to release him in favor of Shrader.
Shrader was an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame and kicked for the Indianapolis Colts earlier this season.
Jets injury update
The Jets downgraded defensive lineman Solomon Thomas from questionable to out with a knee injury on Saturday. Thomas has 2.5 sacks and four quarterback hits in nine games played this season.
New York linebacker C.J. Mosley (neck) remains out, while the team listed cornerback Michael Carter II as questionable (back).
Cardinals S Joey Blount fined
The NFL handed out its gameday accountability fines for Week 9 on Saturday, and the league hit Cardinals safety and special teamer Joey Blount with a $16,883 fine for unnecessary roughness.
Blount caught a facemask while on punt coverage duties in the first quarter against the Chicago Bears, although the play did not result in a flag.

That was the only fine from Arizona’s 29-9 victory.
The Cardinals and Jets will kick off at 2:25 p.m. at State Farm Stadium, and the game will air on 98.7 and the Arizona Sports app.
