Phoenix Suns point guard Collin Gillespie will be reevaluated in a month after fracturing his right ankle, the team announced Tuesday.
Gillespie made one appearance and was in the rotation for Phoenix on Oct. 26 against the Dallas Mavericks due to injuries ahead of him on the depth chart. He is the first and only of Phoenix’s three two-way players to appear for the NBA squad through 10 games this year.
Gillespie played in the Valley Suns’ G League opener on Friday when he injured his ankle.
Gillespie made his NBA debut last season as a member of the Denver Nuggets. He played in 24 games and averaged 3.6 points and 1.1 assists in 9.4 minutes.
A quick Phoenix Suns point guard depth chart look
The Suns entered the season having taken last year’s point-guard-less roster problem seriously by adding Tyus Jones and Monte Morris to veteran’s minimum deals. But they also built up the depth through the two-way slots with Gillespie and combo guard TyTy Washington added.
Phoenix head coach Mike Budenholzer had dipped deep into his bench over the first three games of the season, with starting point guard Jones getting relief from Morris.
Morris piled up 21 points, eight assists and three steals over 42 total minutes in his first three games, but he got little time from there and hasn’t appeared since Nov. 2 against Portland.
Devin Booker and Bradley Beal have eaten up point guard minutes behind Jones in the meantime.
G League check-in on the Valley Suns
The Valley Suns (2-1) made their home debut at Mullett Arena on Monday night and got strong performances out of their other two-way players during an 108-100 win.
Rookie wing Jalen Bridges scored 24 points to go with 11 rebounds.
Through three games, the Baylor product is averaging 25.0 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting 53.6% overall and 48.3% from 3-point range on 9.7 attempts per game.
Washington has posted 24.3 points, 7.3 assists and 6.3 boards.
He is also shooting lights out at 47.3% from the field and 61.1% from deep on 6.0 attempts per game.
