Suns to face Jazz, Blazers next week after failing to make NBA Cup bracket

Dec 4, 2024, 8:06 AM

The Phoenix Suns lost out on making the 2024 NBA Cup bracket through four group-play games, and they will now face the Utah Jazz and Portland Trail Blazers in added regular season games behind the backdrop of the elimination tournament.

Phoenix visits the Utah Jazz at 7:30 p.m. MST on Friday, Dec. 13, before hosting the Portland Trail Blazers for a 6 p.m. MST game Sunday, Dec. 15.

The Suns defeated the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday to remain alive in the NBA Cup chase at 3-1, but the  Thunder’s victory against the Jazz set up Oklahoma City to win the group.

Phoenix had a shot to make the tournament as a Wild Card, but Dallas Mavericks’ come-from-behind victory against the Memphis Grizzlies kept the Mavs ahead of Phoenix in terms of the tiebreaking point differential.

For the Suns, missing out on the potential NBA Cup title will at least give them an easier schedule for games that count for the regular season.

While Oklahoma City hosts Dallas and Houston welcomes Golden State in the Western Conference NBA Cup matchups, Phoenix now gets to play two of the three worst teams in the current conference standings in Portland (8-14) and Utah (4-17).

Phoenix Suns add 2 games to schedule during NBA Cup bracket
