Calgary Flames give young fan birthday present she’ll never forget

Sep 9, 2015, 11:17 AM

Madi Freeman is a 17-year-old girl from Alberta who loves rooting for the Calgary Flames.

Last February, Madi went to a Flames game with her family and had a great time. But a week later, she was diagnosed with leukemia.

Knowing how much fun Madi had at the game, her 12-year-old brother Ty wrote a letter to coach Bob Hartley with hopes that maybe he could arrange a meet-and-greet with the team for his sister.

The response he got was a birthday present that Madi will never forget.

First it was a knock on her door from Flames mascot Harvey the Hound –but Harvey wasn’t alone.

Along with him was Flames forward Joe Colborne complete with birthday flowers, cake and even a special present for Madi – jerseys from Colborne and his Flames teammate Sean Monahan, who surprised Madi via Skype with during the visit.

To add to what was already an incredible birthday surprise, Colborne invited Madi and her brother to come to a game as his guests so that he could make that meet-and greet happen.

While Madi continues to root for the Flames, she can now do so knowing that the Flames are rooting for her, too.
