Running back Andre Ellington left the second half of the Arizona Cardinals’ 31-19 win against the New Orleans Saints with a right knee injury.

After Ellington was carted off the field, head coach Bruce Arians said the team believed the starter had a PCL injury, but further evaluation would be needed before confirming the diagnosis. Ellington told the him he felt “pretty good.”

“We don’t know the severity,” Arians told Paul Calvisi on Arizona Sports 98.7. “It could be one week, it could be a month.”

Speaking with Doug and Wolf on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Monday morning, Cardinals GM Steve Keim said Ellington was set to take an MRI Monday morning to determine the severity of the injury.

“At some point I’ll talk with Tom Reed and our medical staff,” he said. “It’s interesting, after the game he told me he felt pretty good, so we’re optimistic.

“But again, we’ll wait for the MRI this morning and see if it reveals any additional injury information. But that’s why, again, I think you always have to protect yourself in this game, which is exactly why we signed Chris Johnson, exactly why we signed David Johnson, and (we) really feel good about both those guys moving forward.”

Ellington took 12 carries for 69 yards (5.8 yards per carry) with a touchdown. He also had one reception for seven yards.

The Cardinals did not lose much production once Ellington went down with the injury. Trying to burn clock late, veteran Chris Johnson took 10 carries for 37 yards (3.7 yards per rush) and rookie David Johnson took a screen pass for a 55-yard touchdown as Arizona made it a two-score game.
