Cardinals’ Sam Acho is an all-around good guy

Jun 14, 2011, 6:41 PM | Updated: 7:52 pm

Under intangibles in the Arizona Cardinals’ draft report on Texas linebacker Sam Acho had to be the words: “All around great guy”. That’s because he not only excelled on the field as a Longhorn, but in the classroom as well, earning a double major in business and marketing. Not to mention he also makes yearly medical mission trips to his parent’s homeland of Nigeria.

On Tuesday the Big 12 solidify that notion as they awarded Acho with the 2010-11 Sportsperson of the Year award.

The conference describes the award as going to the “student-athletes who displayed an extraordinary degree of sportsmanship and/or community service during the academic year”.

Acho shares the honor with Baylor women’s basketball player Melissa Jones.

No matter how Acho turns out on the field for the Cardinals, his presence in the locker room and community will be beneficial, not to mention he’ll be a public relations department’s dream.

Having a high character guy who takes helping the less fortunate seriously makes the organization and its bond with fans that much stronger. Something any organization is always looking to improve upon.
