According to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, Matt Williams is back in the desert.

A report came out on Nov. 6 that the Arizona Diamondbacks had offered Williams the job.

Williams spent three seasons as the D-backs third base coach before being hired by the Washington Nationals as their manager in 2013. He had a record of 179-145 before being let go on Oct. 5.

Of course, Williams is most known for his time as a player at third base. As a member of the San Francisco Giants, Cleveland Indians and the D-backs, Williams hit 378 home runs and batted in 1,218 runs. He is a five-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner.

He was an original member of the D-backs and still holds the record for most RBI in one season with 142 along with Luis Gonzalez. In the 2001 World Series season, he hit .275 with 16 home runs and 65 RBI.

Williams has spent time with the D-backs as a partial owner, a color commentator, and a “special assistant to the general partner” before spending time as both a first base and third base coach for four seasons.
