Suns forward P.J. Tucker is known around the locker room for his large and very impressive collection of basketball shoes, not to mention his spike-studded dress shoes that he wears to and from games.
Tucker took it to another level against the Clippers on Thursday night by wearing a “Pure Platinum” colorway of the Nike Air Yeezy 2 sneaker designed by Kanye West.
This is a big deal.
According to Sole Collector, this is only the second time a player has worn the shoe in a game. Nate Robinson wore Air Yeezy’s two years ago. For goodness sakes, the shoe has its own Wikipedia page. Rapper Macklemore once wore the shore during a performance and that’s apparently noteworthy.
Air Yeezy 2s dropped at retail stores for more than $200 but due to limited production and high demand have sold for several thousand dollars.
So you, a die-hard sneakerhead, might ask why Tucker would wear shoes that might not be so practical on the court and more fit for a museum.
“I’ve got two pairs,” Tucker said after the game.
Tucker may have plans to do something good out of what’s sure to give him much attention. He will auction off some game-worn sneakers for an upcoming Kicks For Kids event on Dec. 11 and after the game said it’s to-be-determined which of his shoes will be sold.
We’re guessing the Yeezys would raise a bit of money.
