The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Friday they have added right-handed pitchers Jake Barrett and Matt Koch, plus outfielder Gabby Guerrero, to the 40-man roster while designating right-handed pitcher Allen Webster for assignment.
Barrett, the No. 18-ranked prospect in the D-backs’ system, recorded a combined 4-3 record with 15 saves and a 4.58 ERA while splitting time with Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Reno last season. The ASU product was the D-backs’ third-round draft pick in 2012.
The 21-year-old Guerrero was acquired in the D-backs’ June trade that shipped outfielder Mark Trumbo and long reliever Vidal Nuno to the Seattle Mariners for catcher Welington Castillo, relief pitcher Dominic Leone and infielder prospect Jack Reinheimer.
Guerrero, the nephew of former MLB great Vladimir Guerrero, hit .222 with 25 doubles, five triples and seven homers for Double-A Jacksonville and then Double-A Mobile. He is ranked as Arizona’s 14th-best prospect, according to MLB.com.
Guerrero is currently batting .300 and has 4 RBI in the Arizona Fall League playing for the Salt River Rafters.
Koch, 25, was acquired with fellow right-handed pitcher Miller Diaz on Aug. 30 in a trade that sent reliever Addison Reed to the New York Mets. In 36 Double-A games with Binghamton and Mobile, he went 5-8 with 3.20 ERA.
Webster started five major league games for Arizona and played in four more, recording a 5.81 ERA in 31 innings. With Triple-A Reno in 15 starts, Webster went 4-6 with a 8.18 ERA in his first year in the D-backs organization since being acquired in a trade with the Boston Red Sox.
With the roster moves, the Diamondbacks reached the roster limit of 40.
