The Pac-12 Conference is celebrating its 100-year anniversary this season.

In conjunction with that milestone birthday, the conference unveiled its All-Century Pac-12 Team Tuesday night.

One former Sun Devil, defensive end Terrell Suggs, was named to the squad.

Suggs terrorized opposing quarterbacks for three years from 2000 to 2002. In his junior season, Suggs broke the NCAA single-season record for quarterback sacks with 24 — a record that still stands. He was a unanimous First-Team All-American that season for a Sun Devil team that finished 8-6 and nearly upset sixth-ranked Kansas State in the Holiday Bowl.

In addition to his All-American honors, Suggs also won the inaugural Ted Hendricks Award for the top defensive end in the nation, the Lombardi Award, the Nagurski Award, the Bill Willis Trophy and the Pac-10 Morris Trophy.

Suggs stayed at home to play his college ball after he was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in the State of Arizona at Hamilton High in Chandler in 2001. However, Suggs starred as a running back, rushing for 2,274 yards and 26 touchdowns for the Huskies. Head coach Bruce Snyder made the decision to use Suggs on defense, and the rest, as they say, is history.

He’d go on to be a first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens (10th overall) in 2002. Since then, Suggs has amassed 106.5 sacks, has been a six-time Pro Bowler and a First-Team All-Pro once. He was the 2003 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2011.

In 2012, he helped the Baltimore Ravens to their second Super Bowl title.

Other Sun Devils who were up for the All-Century honor were tight end Todd Heap, guard Randall McDaniel, defensive ends Jim Jeffcoat and Shante Carver, linebacker Pat Tillman, cornerbacks Mike Richardson and Eric Allen, safety David Fulcher, kicker Luis Zendejas and punter Mike Black.
