Markieff Morris gets a technical at the worst time and in the silliest way

There’s a time and a place for everything.

When Markieff Morris decided to pick up a technical foul Friday night in the Suns’ loss to the Wizards, it easily surpassed any of his previous 38 career technicals when it comes to the worst time and worst place.

With 9 seconds left in the game and Phoenix trailing 108-106 with Phoenix teammate Brandon Knight at the foul stripe, Morris’ back-and-forth indecision of which side of the hoop to line up on earned him a delay of game technical.

Bradley Beal wound up missing the Wizards’ free throw after the tech. And for what it’s worth, there was a long list of items Phoenix failed to check off down the stretch of the close game.

Still, Morris testing the referee’s patience didn’t help matters.

Morris proclaimed he would win back Suns fans after his ugly offseason following the trade of twin brother Marcus. But his sub-40 percent shooting, lapses on defense and plays such as this one won’t help him moving forward.

After sitting out a game at Detroit with a knee injury, Morris returned to action in the 109-106 loss to Washington but for the first time since the 2013 season came off the bench as Jon Leuer retained his starting spot.

Morris’ actions in the critical final seconds certainly won’t help his case if he’s to gain more of coach Jeff Hornacek’s trust.

Certainly, it’s not garnering more support from Suns fans who are tired of his unnecessary antics.
