When the NFL lockout is lifted, teams will have a short period of time to search the free agent market to fill holes on their rosters.
One source believes Arizona will be looking for a new inside linebacker if they don’t believe one of their rookies can fill the position.
“Don’t be surprised if the Cardinals conduct a serious free-agent search for a durable, physical inside linebacker — a position that appears pretty thin at the moment. “It makes a lot of sense that they would do that,” one team insider said. “If they could find a guy similar to (current starting ILB and former free agent) Paris Lenon, they should do it.” We hear an X-factor at the position is sixth-round rookie Quan Sturdivant, who the team thinks has a shot at becoming a real playmaker,” according to Pro Football Weekly.
Many believe that holdover Gerald Hayes will be sent packing along with outside linebacker Joey Porter when the lockout is over leaving the Cardinals very thin at the position in general.
Even if Sturdivant looks good in Training Camp, it might still be wise for Arizona to find a veteran to help guide the rookie.
