Coyotes’ Louis Domingue records first career shutout, earns another start

Arizona Coyotes goalie Louis Domingue found himself starting with backup Anders Lindbacks coming down with the flu.
Even worse, the 23-year-old entered such a situation with his team coming off a 7-5 loss that coach Dave Tippett could only describe as “disgusting.”
Arizona’s execution tightened Saturday against the New York Islanders, but Domingue would also face the challenge with full force, stopping 25 shots on goal in a 1-0 Coyotes victory at Gila River Arena, the team’s second shutout of the year.
Domingue’s first career shutout came at a much-needed time for Arizona, which has lost starting goalie Mike Smith to an abdominal injury. The Coyotes had allowed at leave five goals in six of their last eight games.
Not only did the performance earn Domingue his second NHL victory — it earned him another start between the pipes when Arizona faces Toronto on Tuesday, reports ArizonaSports.com’s Craig Morgan.

Domingue, the Coyotes’ 2010 fifth-round pick, was recalled from Springfield of the American Hockey League on Dec. 11.
In his first action on Thursday, he saved 8-of-10 shots in 28 minutes after replacing Lindback, who had allowed the first five goals of the onslaught by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
