Kings star Cousins shows off his charitable side

Dec 22, 2015, 3:02 PM

DeMarcus Cousins is one of the more polarizing players in the NBA.

Both incredibly talented and a little mercurial, he is apparently also very charitable.

According to BleacherReport.com, Cousins hosted 100 underprivileged youths from around town to a shopping spree earlier in the month, giving each child $200 to spend at Arden Fair Mall. It was the fourth year he has held the event.

But that wasn’t all for Cousins.

Last week, the 25-year-old and Chevrolet got together to surprise a family with a new car.

According to ABC10.com in Sacramento, Maurice Williams and Selena Pina have been raising their 3-year-old daughter as well as Selena’s two younger twin sisters, who have twice been abandoned — once by their biological mother and then again by family friends who no longer wanted them.

Malnourished and neglected, the twins, almost six-years-old at the time, were left at the front door of Maurice and Selena, who then contacted Child Protective Services for help.

They worked to try to get full custody of the J’nay and J’nette and raise them as their own, beginning an adoption process. In Oct. 2015, Maurice and Selena were granted full guardianship of the twins.

Over the course of the process, Maurice worked to finish school. He has a medical assistant diploma but has been unable to find work due to a lack of childcare and transportation.

With the help of Cousins, the latter issue no longer applies.
