MLB.com: D-backs’ Brandon Drury ranked 4th-best prospect at third

Jan 27, 2016, 8:30 AM

MLB.com ranked Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Brandon Drury the fourth-best prospect at his position.

The website’s continuing series named Rangers prospects Joey Gallo, Rafael Devers of the Red Sox, and the Rockies’ Ryan McMahon ahead of the D-backs’ 23-year-old. Ke’Bryan Hayes of the Pirates rounded out the top-5.

MLB.com’s Mike Rosenbaum had this to say about Drury:

A right-handed hitter, he has a refined approach and makes hard contact from line to line, and he should develop more over-the-fence power as he continues to mature. Drury split time between second and third base in 2015 and could serve as an offensive-minded regular at either position.

Acquired in the Justin Upton trade three years ago, Drury made his major league debut in 2015 and played 20 games with the D-backs. He batted .214 with a .258 on-base percentage, two home runs and eight RBI.

Despite being 6-foot-3 and bulky, Arizona manager Chip Hale has said Drury’s mobility allows him to play second base as well as third. With veteran infielder Aaron Hill reportedly on the trading block, Drury would provide depth for the Diamondbacks in 2016 should he continue to develop and make the opening-day roster.

He would compete for playing time with Jake Lamb at third base and Chris Owings at second base.
