The 5: Top Arizona Cardinals vs. Dallas Cowboys games

Aug 16, 2013, 12:50 AM | Updated: 12:50 am

The Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys have a rivalry that goes way back.

At least, they do in my mind.

From the time the Cardinals moved to Arizona in 1988 until 2001, the teams met twice a season as members of the NFC East.

And, for the most part, those meetings all ended the same way.

On October 14, 1990, the Cardinals beat the Cowboys by a score of 20-3 at Sun Devil Stadium. The Red Birds would not beat “America’s Team” again for nearly seven calendar years.

The Cowboys rattled off 13 straight victories, many of which came in front of blue and silver-clad fans at Sun Devil Stadium.

It was horrible.

But on September 7, 1997, in front of a huge crowd and on TNT, something amazing happened: the Cardinals beat the Cowboys.

From then on, the “rivalry” has been even, with the teams splitting their last 18 contests.

The teams are set to battle once again, albeit in a preseason game that doesn’t count, Saturday at University of Phoenix Stadium. In honor of the matchup, this edition of “The 5” will go over the best games in the Arizona vs. Dallas rivalry. You know, from a Cards fan’s perspective.
