York’s late heroics save Arizona against Cal

Despite scoring only nine points in the first 37 minutes of the game, Gabe York was the hero during Arizona’s 64-61 dramatic win over California.
York scored nine points in the final three minutes of the game, hitting back-to-back-to-back threes.
His first two threes brought the deficit back to a one-possession game for Arizona and his final three gave it the lead. That didn’t seem like it would ever come, after Cal’s Tyrone Wallace put the Bears up eight with 1:55 to go.
York finished with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting after making only 36 percent of his shots in his last seven games of conference play.
Allonzo Trier had one of his worst offensive performances of the season shooting 2-of-9, but his individual defense on projected future NBA lottery pick Jaylen Brown got to Brown, who shot that same 2-for-9 mark and fouled out of the game.
That limited Brown’s minutes, which was the defining storyline of the game for Cal.
Two of Cal’s three big men who play major minutes were in foul trouble almost all night. Kameron Rooks fouled out and Kingsley Okoroh finished with four fouls. Guard Tyrone Wallace also finished with four fouls.
Despite finishing +13 on the boards, Cal was not able to overcome that issue and failed to capitalize on a great game from their freshman big man Ivan Rabb.
Rabb finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds, most of those coming against the two senior bigs from Arizona, Ryan Anderson and Kaleb Tarczewski.
Arizona concludes Pac-12 play against Stanford on Saturday March 5 at 2 p.m.
