Could the Arizona Cardinals be on Antonio Cromartie’s radar?
The Arizona Cardinals could be interested in a cornerback with the surname Cromartie, but it may not be of the Rodgers variety.
If rumors — emphasis on rumors — that Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie could be dealt for Kevin Kolb turn out to be true, the Cards will be in the market for another defensive back (there’s a chance that even with DRC they could still be looking for depth). One possibility, according to Fox Sports’ Adam Schein, could be Rodgers-Cromartie’s cousin Antonio.
cromartie lists jets, houston, tampa, seattle, dallas, jags, raiders, and arizona as potential landing spots.
Like his cousin, Antonio has one Pro Bowl appearance on his resume and has shown flashes of greatness over his five years in the league. He has returned two interceptions for touchdowns in his career and is the owner of the longest touchdown in NFL history (a 109 yard return off of a missed field goal).
Sounds like he’d be a great addition to the Cardinals roster if the price is right, that is, until you look at the other side of things. Cromartie has had his fair share of off the field issues, including trouble paying child support for his seven children with six different women, and hasn’t exactly been known for his headiness either (he scored a 12 on his Wonderlic test).
Like most transactions this offseason, the Cardinals will have to weigh the good with the bad, especially if they’re truely interested in adding Cromartie to their defensive backfield. Unfortunately, thanks to the lockout, they’ll have a truncated timetable to do it in.
