It’s a day that baseball fans have been looking forward to since the last out was made in last year’s World Series — Opening Day.
A day when everything starts fresh, everyone is 0-0 and everyone has the same chance of winning the World Series.
It’s a season of optimism, especially if you’re the Arizona Diamondbacks, who retooled their roster and look to contend in the new season after failing to make the playoffs the year before.
The D-backs are on the right track after an excellent showing in spring training.
Let’s take a look at their spring, by the numbers.
24
The Diamondbacks won 24 games this spring, the most in all of baseball and finished spring training with a 24-8 record.
.469
Jean Segura will compete with Chris Owings and Nick Ahmed for time in the middle infield and Segura did the best job possible to make a case for himself. Segura’s .469 average was the second-best batting average in all of spring. He finished just behind Colorado Rockies’ third baseman Nolan Arenado’s .542 average.
10
Brandon Drury led all of baseball this spring with ten doubles. He also led the majors in runs scored with 18, one more than his teammate Segura.
1.71
Patrick Corbin made the case for being one of the best starters at the No. 3 spot in all of MLB. A 1.71 ERA in six starts with 24 strikeouts and only three walks has D-backs fans excited about not just big-time acquisitions Zack Greinke and Shelby Miller, but Corbin as well.

Speaking of Greinke, the $200-plus million dollar man showed his worth right away in a D-backs uniform. He had only one walk in 14.1 innings and finished spring with a 1.88 ERA.
19
After being acquired from the Seattle Mariners in the middle of the season, Welington Castillo brought some much needed power to the D-backs lineup. It looks like the D-backs should expect that same pop this season. Castillo tied with Peter O’Brien for the team lead in home runs (5) this spring and also had a team-high 19 RBI.
.404
Yasmany Tomas has been called the x-factor by some for the D-backs and he had a good start to his crucial season. A .404 average in 47 at-bats this spring included seven doubles.
4.07
Jake Lamb showed discipline at the plate this spring. The third baseman had a walk in every 4.07 at-bats this spring, cutting his number from 2015 (9.72) in half and then some. That pace should help him easily beat his 2015 mark of 36 walks. Lamb had 14 walks in just 24 games this spring.
