The first step moving forward for the Phoenix Suns next season will be finding their new head coach.

Interim coach Earl Watson was called a candidate for the job next season by Suns general manager Ryan McDonough in the beginning of March.

Along with other names, that could be the case for Watson according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.

Stein reports the Suns will look into multiple candidates that will “likely” include Watson, Golden State Warriors assistant coach Luke Walton, former Suns head coach Mike D’Antoni and Grand Canyon head coach Dan Majerle on “a broad list of targets.”

Walton became a hot name on the NBA coaching scene after replacing Warriors head coach Steve Kerr for much of the regular season. He has been an assistant in Golden State since 2014.

Those looking for the former University of Arizona star to join the Suns shouldn’t get too excited according to Stein, who says Phoenix have an “extremely long shot to lure Walton from his post with the Warriors.”

D’Antoni is currently the Philadelphia 76ers associate head coach and is known for his time coaching the “Seven Seconds or Less” Suns from 2003 to 2008. He had a record of 253-136 in the regular season and 26-25 in the playoffs.

Majerle’s created some major buzz for GCU’s basketball program this past season, finishing the season 27-7. Majerle played for the Suns from 1988 to 1995 and again from 2001 to 2002. He spent time as an assistant in Phoenix from 2008 to 2013.

A report from earlier in the week had the Suns interested in Villanova head coach Jay Wright.
