Darnell Dockett ready for training camp to begin

Jul 25, 2011, 4:12 PM | Updated: 5:32 pm

It appears NFL training camp is right around the corner and Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett is ready to return to work.

“I’ve already packed for training camp,” Dockett told the NFL Network. “I’m just waiting to hear the official word on what day to be in Flagstaff.”

Dockett’s enthusiasm is certainly a welcome sight for the Cardinals and their fans as they begin what is a very important training camp.

Yes, every training camp is important as it helps lay the foundation for the upcoming season, but as Dockett points out, the missed time could be very costly for a team breaking in a new quarterback and defensive coordinator.

“We’ve missed OTA’s and mini camps and all the chemistry things we would have done during the summer,” Dockett said. “Now we are just going to get a few short weeks together.”

The Cardinals will have a limited amount of time together prior to preseason games so it is imperative they make the most of it.

The defense will likely face a learning curve with new defensive coordinator Ray Horton and the offense will have to undergo an adjustment period as well as they adapt to a new quarterback, presumably Kevin Kolb.
While every team will have limited training camps, the lockout and shortened offseason really hampered teams going through such personnel changes.

The success of these teams will depend on their ability to make the most out of training camp, but if the entire Cardinals roster approaches training camp with the same attitude as Dockett, the team should be just fine.
