SAN DIEGO (AP) — Yasmany Tomas homered twice, drove in three runs and scored three times to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 7-3 victory against the San Diego Padres on Sunday.
Brandon Drury had a two-run homer, a triple and scored twice for the Diamondbacks, who bounced back from Saturday night’s 5-3, 14-inning loss to take two of three.
Patrick Corbin (1-1) outdueled Robbie Erlin (1-2) in a matchup of lefties, allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked three.
Tomas, who defected from Cuba in 2013, had the first two-homer game of his two-season big league career. They were also his first of the season.
He hit a two-run shot to right with two outs in the first and a solo homer to right-center with one out in the sixth, both off Erlin. He also singled leading off the fourth and scored on Drury’s homer to left, his first.
After Tomas homered in the sixth, Drury tripled to left and scored on Jake Lamb’s groundout.
Erlin allowed six runs and eight hits in six innings, struck out four and walked one.
Arizona’s Phil Gosselin homered leading off the eighth off Kevin Quackenbush, his eighth.
San Diego scored two unearned runs in the first inning on two singles and two errors, including a throwing error by Corbin.
Melvin Upton Jr., who hit a game-winning, two-run homer Saturday night, hit an RBI triple in the third to give the Padres a short-lived 3-2 lead.
