The Phoenix Suns have hired Earl Watson as their head coach, signing him to a straight three-year contract.

The Suns reached out to people and gathered information on other potential candidates, but they decided not to overthink the process and never opened the job up. They thought Watson was the best man for the job and that’s who they hired.

The Suns believe Watson is a perfect fit for a young, developing team and they liked the feedback they got from the players on Watson’s tenure as the interim coach.

All of the Suns’ assistant coaches have their contracts coming up. Some will be retained and others will not.

The Suns felt Watson inspired, motivated and held the players accountable. They believe the team turned the corner after the Markieff Morris trade, even with four of their top scorers out of the lineup.

In the end, Phoenix felt like they had the right guy for the job and therefore decided not to interview anyone else.
