Zack Greinke ‘drives the bus’ after a desperate plea from David Peralta

The Arizona Diamondbacks have a unique way of celebrating base hits, and Zack Greinke was introduced to the antics during Monday’s night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The tradition, according to David Peralta, started when Welington Castillo arrived on the team.

His nickname translates to “big truck,” and Peralta explained how a big truck or bus has a large wheel you have to steer with a lot of distance between your hands.

Peralta said it’s fun, different and something everyone likes.

Someone didn’t alert Greinke, however, after his single in the sixth inning.

Greinke’s hit was the fourth straight of the inning and got the momentum going.

Peralta pleaded with Greinke to drive the bus from the bench for a good five seconds before Greinke begrudgingly gave a quick handle of the wheel, resulting in pure joy from Peralta.

“He was trying to ignore me,” Peralta said after the game. “I think it was the best moment of the game. He’s kind of serious and everything, but I make him try the bus.”

Greinke said it “never crossed” his mind to drive the bus, but he saw Peralta and tried to make him feel good.

The D-backs wound up driving the bus a lot more that inning, scoring nine runs.

If D-backs fans thought Greinke driving the bus was wild, Peralta has a plan for the rest of the season.
