Every player who makes their Major League debut hopes they perform well: get a base hit, maybe score a run or not give up a run if you’re a pitcher. For 23-year-old Zac Curtis, his main concern was not tripping over his own feet.

“As I was running out, the only thing I was thinking about was ‘don’t trip'”, Curtis told reporters after the game. “A bunch of guys have told me ‘don’t look up, keep your focus on the mound’, so I was just watching my feet and kept telling myself ‘don’t trip’ or this is going to be a debut you’ll never forget.”

Curtis shouldn’t forget his debut Saturday night, however, as the youngster saved the Diamondbacks from further damage in the ninth inning.

Curtis relieved closer Brad Ziegler after the Colorado Rockies tacked on three runs to take a 5-2 lead. The pitcher was able to get former Diamondback Gerardo Parra to ground out in an inning-ending double play.

Prior to the game, Curtis shared how his Single-A team, the Visalia Rawhide, surprised him with the news.

While it’s still remain to be seen if the D-backs will keep Curtis on the roster for an extended period of time, the pitcher showed pose entering a tough situation for his MLB debut.
