The Arizona Diamondbacks’ outfield took a significant hit before the season began when All-Star centerfielder A.J. Pollock landed on the disabled list with an elbow injury.

Since then, their outfield has been a mix-and-match of players, many of whose natural positions are somewhere in the infield.

Tuesday, the organization added another option.

The 33-year-old Bourn was released from a minor league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays Monday. With their Class-A Advanced affiliate he was hitting .257 with two doubles, one triple and a stolen base in 41 plate appearances.

Last season he played for the Atlanta Braves and Cleveland Indians, and batted .238 with 15 doubles, two triples, 30 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 141 games. He is earning $14 million this season under a contract signed in 2013, with the money being paid by the Braves and Indians.

A career .266 hitter with 326 stolen bases, Bourn was an All-Star in 2010 and 2012. Along with the Atlanta and Cleveland, he has played for the Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies.
