The Arizona Diamondbacks have been desperate for some outfield help, and while Chris Herrmann has provided some this past week, Michael Bourn brought hits to the group Sunday.

The veteran outfielder and former All-Star had three hits against the St. Louis Cardinals in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ 7-2 win.

Bourn, who was called up to Arizona from Double-A Mobile after David Peralta was placed on the 15-day disabled list, was signed to a minor league contract by the Diamondbacks on May 10.

The D-backs have had a rotating group in the outfield in the 2016 season, mostly due to the injury to All-Star outfielder A.J. Pollock. Infielders Chris Owings, Brandon Drury and Chris Herrmann have spent time there, with Owings and Drury becoming more permanent fixtures with their success at the plate.

Bourn took advantage of his opportunity Sunday. The 33-year-old was hitting in Pollock’s old No. 2 spot and had success doing it.

He singled in the first inning and that was followed by a double play by Paul Goldschmidt that brought in the first run of the game.

His next at-bat in the third inning was an infield single, which led to another Goldschmidt RBI, and he got his own RBI in the sixth on another single to right field.

Bourn’s average for the season climbed to .375 on 16 at-bats.
