Christmas spirit or a marketing opportunity?
December 25 in the NBA is both, quite frankly. A sports day that has been taken over by the National Basketball Association over the last decade or so, Christmas, in many’s eyes, is the time when the season kicks into high gear.
Normally five games are featured on the holiday and with so many potential viewers tuning in, the league has marketed Christmas Day jerseys for all 30 of the league’s franchises (although only 10 will be in action).
The 2016 version is very similar to last year’s, with each team wearing normal team colors but the jerseys feature a uniform lettering pattern.
The Phoenix Suns’ version is orange, with the team name in a black script and dark gray numbers. Last year’s X-mas threads were a cream color with orange lettering. They were never worn.
In fact, the Suns haven’t played on Christmas Day since 2009 and are 12-6 in franchise history on Dec. 25.
