Jake Lamb comes in clutch for D-backs in tough season

In a season in which the D-backs have fallen short of expectations, Jake Lamb has held his own.

That’s exactly what happened on Wednesday night when the Diamondbacks, trailing 4-1 heading to the ninth inning, rallied against the Astros’ Luke Gregerson. Jean Segura was hit by a pitch to start the inning, Michael Bourn doubled to score Segura, and Goldy lined out.

Then, Lamb tied it with a two-run shot.

Lamb’s home run was the fifth time this season that he has hit a homer in the ninth, and the third time he’s done so in the last six games.

On April 18 in San Francisco, Lamb’s two-out home run tied the game off of Giants closer Santiago Casilla. It was just the seventh two-out, ninth inning game-tying homer in team history. The D-backs would go on to win that game in extra innings.

Wednesday’s home run extended Lamb’s hit streak to a career-high 10 games. In that span, he’s hit .333 with three home runs and seven RBIs.

The D-backs’ Tyler Clippard gave up a solo home run to George Springer in the 11th inning, giving the Astros a 5-4 walk-off win. Still, Lamb’s big hit was a bright spot for a struggling club.

Lamb now has nine home runs and 30 RBI on the season to go along with a .282 batting average.
