Kevin Kolb to Arizona trade seems to be delayed

Jul 27, 2011, 3:13 PM | Updated: 5:14 pm

The NFL offseason has finally begun, but the Arizona Cardinals are still without a quarterback.

Many expected Kevin Kolb to be traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to Arizona as soon as trades were allowed to occur.

Whether there is something holding the deal up, or the Cardinals are simply being patient, Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug Franz thinks the delay is beneficial to the team.

“Right now the Cardinals patience looks very very good,” Franz said on Doug and Wolf. “As other teams aren’t waiting, it’s dropping the Eagles options.”

While plenty of people expected this deal to already be done, no one knew what the definite asking price for Kolb would be. As more and more teams acquire their 2011 quarterbacks the Eagles price will have to drop.

This is certainly good news for the Cardinals if it is in fact the reason the trade has been delayed. However, Sports 620 KTAR’s Ron Wolfley posed another alternative.

“I don’t know if it’s the Philadelphia Eagles that are holding this up, what if it’s Kevin Kolb?” Wolfley asked on Doug and Wolf. “Maybe it’s negotiations that are holding this up.”

If the Cardinals are going to make a major trade and give up anything significant for Kolb, they are going to want to sign him to a long term deal.

The Cardinals want Kolb to be their franchise quarterback and for him to be around for a long time. If the team and Kolb are having trouble agreeing on a contract extension, it would, and may already be, adding delays to the expected trade.
