ASU goes dark Friday night

Except for a couple of hours on a Tuesday afternoon back in April, ASU has kept its brand new black football uniforms in the closet.
The closet doors open this week.
ASU will wear the black Nike uniforms and helmets Friday when they play nationally ranked Missouri in what is being called a “Black Out” game at Sun Devil Stadium. ESPN will televise the match-up between PAC-12 and Big 12.
“We’re excited to be on a national stage on a Friday night when we’re the only football game that’s out there,” said Dennis Erickson.
According to quarterback Brock Osweiler, “this is a game we’ve had circled for a very long time. We don’t like to look ahead but I know when I was being recruited to come here this was one of the games we talked about.
“Black uniforms. National TV. ESPN. The only game that’s on TV that night. We’re expecting a full stadium. We’re playing a very quality opponent and we’re at home early in the season.”
Missouri, like ASU, won its season opener, 17-6 against Miami of Ohio. The Tigers, however, carry with them a TOP-25 ranking, 22-straight non-conference regular season wins and six straight bowl game appearances, including last year’s Insight Bowl at Sun Devil Stadium.
“This will be big to find out where we’re at,” Erickson stated. “It’ll give us a pretty good feel of where we’re at going into our league. We think we have a chance to be pretty good but we’ll know more about us after that football game, no question about it.”
And the new uniforms? “As I’ve said many times it’s not the unis it’s whose in the unis.”
