Mark Schlabach betting on Pac 12 expansion

Sep 20, 2011, 2:09 AM | Updated: 3:11 am

ESPN’s Mark Schlabach joined Arizona Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf show to discuss the possibility of Pac-12 expansion.

Schlabach broke down the situation going on right now with Big 12 teams looking at a move to the Pac-12 or possibly elsewhere.

“Larry Scott, the Pac-12 commissioner, has got to convince these other Pac-12 presidents that it’s the right thing to do,” said Schlabach of the potential expansion.

“I can see Oklahoma and Oklahoma State going to the Pac 12 pretty quick. I don’t know that Texas is as done as people think,” said Schlabach.

The biggest obstacle for Texas moving anywhere is going to be the Longhorn Network, the University’s deal with ESPN.

“When they’re not sharing money off the Longhorn Network I think it raises some questions,” said Schlabach.

Whether it is the two Oklahoma schools, Texas, or any other school, Schlabach believes that expansion for the Pac 12 is inevitable.

“At the end of the day, Larry Scott is so good at what he does, he will convince those Pac-12 presidents that is we don’t grab Texas and Oklahoma somebody else is going to get them,” said Schlabach.
