Vontaze Burfict’s critics reach the national level

It is hard to gauge ASU middle linebacker Vontaze Burfict’s impact on the field, is he helping his team or is he hurting it?

CBS Sports’ Bruce Feldman said that Burfict’s play can ultimately end up costing the Sun Devils’ play on the field.

“Clearly there is a lot of intensity and a lot of passion that he has, and obviously all players have,” Feldman told Arizona Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf, “but his seems like it brims over so often that it ends up being a detriment.”

Burfict had a reputation coming into the season as a wild player known to act out, but the negative attention toward the Sun Devil has grown to the national level and has become more negative.

“He has put them in such a bind that I think it has to be really frustrating for the coaches and fans there,” Feldman said.

Being associated with words like ‘detriment’ and ‘frustrating’ can damage a player’s NFL draft stock and Burfict has not helped quiet his critics.

“It will be interesting to see what he does at the NFL level because some of the things he does here,” Feldman said, “but in the NFL people aren’t going to put up with some of the things that people have dealt with throughout his career.”
