Newton’s meetings before draft don’t include Cardinals

On Thursday evening we learned quarterback Cam Newton’s travel plans for the next couple of weeks.
In those plans nine NFL teams are scheduled to either bring him to their place or head to Auburn University for a visit with the Heisman Trophy winner.
The Arizona Cardinals are not one of those nine teams.
What does that tell us?
It tells us the Cardinals are very unlikely to be taking Cam Newton with the No. 5 overall pick.
If you are going to draft a quarterback — a franchise quarterback at that — it’s safe to say you usually get a closer look and spend more time with the young QB before you select him.
Earlier this week the Cardinals left owners meetings in New Orleans and headed to Missouri to have dinner and workout Blaine Gabbert.
That’s what you do when you like a prospect and someone you may be selecting to call signals for your team.
So, as far as Cardinals fans are concerned — unless something changes — Newton will not be throwing passes to Larry Fitzgerald.
In the long list of “who will be the Cardinals starting quarterback next year” go ahead and put a thick line through Newton’s name.
