Rumor: Erickson tells staff he will retire

Those calling for Arizona State football head coach Dennis Erickson’s job may not have to wait too long.
According to Ron Allen’s Twitter page, head of the elite football training academy B2G in California, Erickson told his staff Sunday morning that this is his final season on the sidelines as a coach.
After being touted as the clear favorites to win the Pac-12 South, Arizona State started off in top form, beating Missouri, USC and Utah. The Sun Devils had a 6-2 record at the end of October, but it has been all downhill since then.
The Sun Devils, once in place to take full control of the Pac-12 South for good, have lost the last three games to opponents they should have beaten, including a heartbreaking loss Saturday night to the rival Arizona Wildcats.
A winless November has many saying that Erickson is no longer the right coach to be at ASU. If Allen is accurate, ASU will likely not go through the effort of firing him before the season’s end and will begin their search immediately for a new head coach, if they haven’t already.
While other tweets conflict with what Allen said, Erickson’s future does not seem to lay with ASU. His contract expires at the end of next season and yet another mediocre Sun Devils team should not be enough to get his contract extended.
